Weekly Book Recommendation: August 5, 2009

We're past due for a poetry recommendation. Leonard Schwartz's A Message Back and Other Furors will appease both your externalist side and your experimental side; the side of you that admires the structure of language and the side that wants to rebel against it. This is a book of poetry that you will read again and again--not because the text requires it to be understood, but because the text requires you to want to understand.
Thoughtful reading,
L.

Most recent best experiences with poetry have been with The Collected Poems of C.P.Cavafy and before that the poetry of Hafiz, both of course (alas) in translation.
