Acceptance and Payment Information
Upon acceptance, contributors will be asked for:
- Acceptance of terms. Our terms are listed below. Each contributor must submit an acceptance of these terms prior to publication. Minors must submit a signed release from their parent or guardian.
- A brief biography. The biography must be in third person and fewer than 100 words. Biographies over 100 words will be edited down at our discretion.
- The accepted piece as a .rtf attachment. We are no longer accepting .doc or .pdf attachments as pre-existing formatting codes interfere with our ability to publish these.
The Externalist: A Journal of Perspectives typically purchases:
- First North American Rights and First Web Rights
- Electronic Rights for a period spanning the date of acceptance of terms to six months following the date of publication
- Archive Rights
Publication will occur within one year of acceptance, but usually much sooner than that. In the event that a contributor's work is selected for an anthology or print edition of The Externalist, we will contact the contributor for additional rights.
At this time, we are unable to pay our contributors. However, we offer the following services to anyone published in The Externalist: A Journal of Perspectives:
- Permanent inclusion in our Contributor Directory, with contact information and a link to a personal web site, blog, or book for purchase.
- The ability to request announcements of major publications and/or awards through our blog.
- One free advertisement per year on our blog. Questions regarding advertisement should be addressed to Editor.
In addition, we often send out invitations to participate in blog features and plugs for our contributors through both Facebook and Twitter. We also nominate for a variety of awards.
We are always looking for new ways to help our contributors. If you have any suggestions or ideas, please email us.
